Our artists recently showcased their ~ SCULPTURAL SPRINGTIME SLOTHS in a sling, sporting stylish sandals + sunhats + sunglasses + scarves, while sipping & sun-basking in the sunshine in our early spring + six-week + school-year art workshops for ages 5 & up! We have a feeling these creatures will “slowly” steal your heart! Sharing a list of sweet-n-simple, go-to-supplies, to get your very own sloth started using several upcycled material you might already have on hand! Did you know sloths are the most trending animal of the year? Would you believe the sloth has replaced the unicorn!?! Indeed, it’s true! Read about their debut as “the most trending creature” of this year. Would you also believe a baby sloth was just born, right here in Colorado!?! If you’re looking for some amazing + simple sloth facts for kids, to go along with this DIY, take a look. Artists loved learning all about these cozy and trending creatures! We even hosted a sloth birthday party right in our very own sweet studio!

A collection of 30 pieces on our gallery wall created by local artist ~ Lindsay Jones! This collection will display through December! Lindsay is a contemporary artist, surface pattern designer, and graphic designer. She works in a variety of media including drawing, painting, digital art, sculptural constructions, and installations. Her fine art work reflects on ideas of landscapes and environments that are built, altered, shaped, and manipulated, while using playful patterns and abstracted imagery. When Lindsay is not working, you can find her outside camping, exploring remote lands, mountain biking in the desert, or racing cyclocross, all of which inspire her creative work.
A sculptural piece created by Lindsay Jones in her Pattern Recognition collection. Artists of all ages created “in the style of Lindsay” as they made flags in her unique style and color pallet.

Happy Summertime + July 1st! Excited to announce we’re partnering with Deep Space Sparkle as an art presenter in their Draw, Paint, Make online workshop this Saturday, July 7th! Learn more about this incredible art workshop, the art teachers involved (pictured below), and all the amazing techniques, processes, and projects featured! In this artfully amazing workshop, we’ll be demonstrating all the steps + secrets + special techniques used to create our recent ~ Lil’ Llamas in Pajamas Party Project! Designed, dreamed up, and created with mini-makers in our very own downtown studio! Within the workshop, we’ll also be giving a tour of our NEW art studio (click for a sneak peek) and its organization for creating with children! Join HANDMAKERY + six other art teachers to jazz up art projects with inspiring, yet easy, processes, plans & techniques this Saturday!
Our Lil’ Lamas in Pajamas Project focuses on painted pillows, poufs, ottomans, and wallpaper as interior design elements. It also highlights lovely lil’ llamas, a pajama party a-poppin’, the artist as a photographer peeking into the party, a masterpiece mix of techniques using sketching, drawing, painting, collaging, photography, interior design, expressive color, a unique + exquisite color scheme, patterns, layering, humor, a fun storyline based on the letter P, and more! Did we mention, in our six-week workshop creating with children, we topped it off with our very own pajama party plus mini-exhibit for our mini makers!?! Would love for you to join us this Saturday for Draw, Paint, Make! We’ll definitely be there chatting and chiming in! First Friday was our ~ Opening Night Celebration at our NEW art studio location at 449 Main Street in downtown Carbondale | CO! With a wide array of ages and not knowing exactly how many guests we’d have joining in, we kept it celebratory + simple + full of dazzle, painting and embellishing ~ Celebration Crowns! Main Street was blocked so everyone could enjoy an evening strolling the streets of historic downtown! The night was festive and full of flavor, with everyone back-in-town from summer adventures. The community was alive, vibrant, and actively adventuring around this artistic town!
A peek at creating in our outdoor art studio at May’s First Friday in historic downtown Carbondale | CO! HANDMAKERY: A Children’s Art Studio had the opportunity be a sponsor at the Family Block Party for a second year! The Family Block Party is an annual event that includes a fabulous live band, beautiful face painting, exciting carnival games + a bounce house, arts + crafts {with us}, sweet adoptable pets looking for a forever home, a silent auction full of amazing giveaways, food + drink hosted by The Village Smithy Restaurant and more! Funds benefit Colorado Animal Rescue, Children’s Rocky Mountain Preschool and Carbondale Recreation! This night wouldn’t be possible without all the fabulous organizers, volunteers, local businesses, community sponsors + supporters and all the MANY families + friends that attended the 4-8PM celebration of moving into spring!
Happy 1st Birthday HANDMAKERY, so wonderful that SO many amazing HANDMAKERY artists + volunteers joined us for an action packed evening! Last year we made our debut at Family Block Party 2013, which was another incredible night of celebration and art-making with children!
